Secondary school students experience robots in action

As part of a partnership model, 30 pupils from the Goethe Realschule in Löhne recently paid a visit to AGOFORM GmbH to experience its production process first hand. At their school the eighth graders are taking a course in the basics of information technology with a focus on robot programming, a course that the school introduced a year ago.

AGOFORM is a cooperative partner and offers these guided tours to enable the students to see the original-size robots in action. At AGOFORM several robots are integrated into the production processes to assist the workforce and perform monotonous tasks. For example, a small blue robot is responsible for sticking adhesive labels to the back of non-slip mats. The students were given the chance of touring the production halls and gained lots of useful information on robots and their functions. Their teacher, Adam Bartkowaik, said: “I believe a tour of production presents a great opportunity, since the students are now getting to the stage where they need to make career choices.”

The students were guided through the company by four AGOFORM trainees. Following the guided tour they were given the opportunity to directly suggest improvements and say what in particular had impressed them. “I find it interesting to watch the robots in action and experience how the products are made“, one particular student said. Another remarked: “It was exciting to see how the production process functions in practice.”

AGOFORM manufactures plastic products for the furniture industry and sells them in over 60 countries worldwide. The product portfolio includes non-slip mats and drawer inserts for the kitchen, bathroom and office as well as complex industrial components for the automobile industry. The company has a total of 160 employees plus 13 trainees/apprentices.

AGOFORM offers apprenticeships and traineeships for the following professions: machine and systems operator, mechatronics engineer, industrial clerk and process mechanic for plastics and rubber technology.
